Minister of Communications Amr Talaat opened on Monday the Seamless North Africa Conference in Cairo, on behalf of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

The event was held under the auspices of the Cabinet, the Central Bank of Egypt, the Arab League, and the Arab Federation for Digital Economy.

The conference will run for two days, from 17 to 18 July, at the Egypt Exhibition Center in New Cairo, under the title “The Financial Technology Gateway in the Middle East and Africa”.

The Minister of Communications said that the Seamless North Africa Conference hosted a group of decision-makers, experts, and specialists in the field of financial technology, which is a promising industry that represents an essential element for laying the foundations of the digital economy and constitutes a basic building block in the building of digital Egypt.

He stressed that Egypt’s hosting of the conference’s activities is evidence of the great importance of the financial technology sector in Egypt. The sector is deemed one of the main foundations of the integrated strategy pursued by the government to build a strong digital economy capable of keeping pace with future aspirations and challenges, and make optimal use of the vast opportunities offered by digitization in the financial sector.

He added that the government has taken great strides to expand the uses of digital technologies as part of its endeavor to build a digital Egypt to include the digitization of all ministries and government agencies. Through that, it aims to provide services more efficiently and quickly to citizens.

Talaat reviewed the state’s efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial technology services and electronic payments by developing a strong technological infrastructure that keeps pace with our growing needs and future aspirations. A large project has been implemented since 2019 to better the efficiency of the Internet with investments of EGP 100bn, as well as create the legislative and regulatory environment that supports digital transformation.
