Morocco’s ONMT, Air Transat Sign Partnership to Launch Montreal-marrakech Air Route

Rabat – Morocco’s Tourism Office (ONMT) and Air Transat have signed an agreement to launch an air route connecting Montreal and Marrakech starting in June 2024.

The signing of the agreement took place on Wednesday in Montreal in the presence of General Director of ONMT Adel El Fakir.

In a statement, ONMT identified Air Transat as the second North American carrier to fly to Morocco after Air Canada.

“Air Transat becomes the sole airline in North America offering direct flights to Marrakech,” the statement said, noting that the air route between Montreal and Morocco’s red city will operate twice a week in the summer.

The air route will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays from June to October and once during the winter on Saturdays from November to April.

The statement added that the route will join the existing flight routes to Morocco, including the Casablanca-Montreal route operated by Moroccan carrier Royal Air Maroc.

Meanwhile, the Montreal-Marrakech route will be the first point-to-point connection to Marrakech from North America outside Casablanca.

“It will offer travelers a wide range of possibilities with access to beach resorts like Essaouira, Taghazout, and Agadir,” in addition to other mountainous destinations, the statement added.

According to the statement, Marrakech represents 24% of Canadian tourist arrivals in Morocco. The figure could reach 40% by becoming the primary departure city for tours or combined trips.

ONMT stressed that seat capacity from Canada to Morocco increased by 87% over the past 10 years, jumping from 87,000 to 164,000 seats per year.

Arrivals reached 82,50 people between the first nine months of this year, with a 23% capacity increase expected for the upcoming winter.
