Morocco Strongly Condemns Extremist Incursions Into Al-Aqsa Mosque

Rabat – Morocco has condemned the persistence of incursions from extremists into the Al-Aqsa Mosque. A source from the Foreign Affairs Ministry said that the country considered the acts of escalation as “likely to inflame tensions and undermine efforts at reconciliation in the occupied Palestinian territories,” Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported. Morocco emphasized the need to put an end to all unilateral actions and forms of escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories and to preserve the legal and historical status of the Holy City and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The report further adds that Morocco believes that the approach of dialogue and negotiations is “the only way to achieve a comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the resolutions of international legitimacy and the principle of the two-state solution agreed upon by the international community.” The news comes one day after Israeli authorities launched an assault on Palestinian worshipers near Bab al-Silsila, which serves as a primary entry point to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem, an area under Israeli occupation.

On Sunday, Israeli forces implemented stringent security protocols, resulting in the expulsion of worshipers from the Al-Aqsa Mosque and an escalated military presence in its vicinity, Al Jazeera reported. The measures were taken to restrict access to individuals under the age of 50 among Palestinians, with the aim of facilitating the arrival of Israeli settlers for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Countries around the world have expressed their condemnation of the provocative incident. Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the act that was carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs placed full responsibility on Israel for the ongoing violations and urged the international community to take action to halt the escalation caused by the Israeli occupation. Likewise, Qatar issued a statement emphasizing that such actions represent efforts to undermine the religious and historical significance of the sacred site.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, like Saudi Arabia, held Israel accountable for the violence resulting from the systematic escalation carried out by the Israeli occupation. The Foreign Ministry of Palestine has also responded to Israel’s attacks, denouncing the violations and crimes committed by Israeli forces, as well as by settler militias and armed terrorist elements.
