Morocco Elected to Arab Labor Organization Board, Secures Multiple Seats


Morocco secured five seats, a significant accomplishment that highlights the country’s growing influence within the organization.

Rabat – Morocco has been elected as a member representing governments on the Board of Directors of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO), marking its first representation since 2006. 

The election took place during the 49th session of the Arab Labour Conferences which is held in Egypt, Cairo from May 22 to May 29, 2023.

Morocco secured five seats, a significant accomplishment that highlights the country’s growing influence within the organization. 

Two of the seats were granted in the Arab Commission for Arab Women’s Employment Affairs, reflecting Morocco’s commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women in the labor force. 

Additionally, Morocco obtained two seats in the Financial and Administrative Control Authority, showcasing the country’s dedication to ensuring transparent and efficient governance practices. 

The North African country also earned a seat in the Arab Commission Social Security Association, emphasizing its commitment to providing social protection to its citizens.

Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, highlighted the significance of this election. 

Sekkouri said, “Morocco’s selection to the Board of Directors of the ALO acknowledges its achievements regarding the institutionalization of social dialogue, as well as the generalization of social protection.”

During the 49th Arab Labor Conference, Minister Sekkouri engaged in bilateral talks with several ministers, solidifying Morocco’s commitment to collaboration and cooperation.

The Moroccan minister held discussions with ALO Director General Fayez Ali Al-Mutairi, where they explored avenues to strengthen the partnership between Morocco and the organization.

This meeting emphasized the importance of shared objectives in advancing labor-related issues within the Arab world.

Minister Sekkouri also held talks with the Palestinian Minister of Labor, Nasri Abu Jaish, focusing on labor mobility, social protection, and mutual cooperation in areas of common interest.

During their meeting, the Palestinian minister commended King Mohammed V for his unwavering support of the Palestinian cause, highlighting the strong bond between Morocco and Palestine. 

These bilateral talks served to strengthen the already robust relations between Morocco and the participating countries. They provided a platform to reinforce existing ties, explore avenues for enhanced collaboration.

As Morocco assumes its newfound role on the Board of Directors of the Arab Labor Organization, it is poised to contribute significantly to the development of labor policies, social sustainability and gender empowerment within the Arab region.
